I'm in the lead like a scart

I was talking to someone recently about grime's roots in deliciously unsophisticated technology - hold tight the Music 2000 crew - and appropriately enough Lee Brasco turns up on Logan's show spitting an entire song's worth of hilarious computer game bars; 'Girls call me Sega / Cos I give them the Megadrive' being my favourite.

Lee Brasco - Computer Girls

The fact that the beat is built by JME from the Mario theme just adds to the bouncey sense of fun: sugar-rush grime is so hot right now. I like the fact that grime is so capable of 'dressing up' cheesy or over-familiar pop culture melodies (Skepta's 'Match of the Day' tune springs to mind too) - without inducing the sickly GIMMICK taste that usually comes after more than two listens to techno or drum 'n' bass remixes of things like Bubble Bobble or Pacman.

Crazy Titch - Freestyle over Streetfighter Riddim

Hold tight Chris at Word The Cat for this Titch clip. Anyone who can ID the producer gets the special password to access Lower End Spasm's secret level.

Talking of grime and technology, I was on 'Planet 3', the interactive bit of my crappy city-boy mobile, intending to spend my 'free £5 credit' on some Sean Paul ringtone to add to my already extensive collection, and what do I see in the 'Hot New Tunes' section? Wiley - 50/50!! Wiley, alongside McFly and Fergie! This time he wants to make mainstream money, I think it's fair to say.

In other Wil news, there's a new bonus track on Playtime Is Over featuring Brazen and Little D. It is really really very poor, so I will say no more about it. You should buy the album anyway.

I don't have headphones here, so can't listen, but wasn't Streetfighter Riddim Dizzee?
