As you can see, this mix features UK niche bassline garage and jacking bass-heavy house by people like Crookers and Herve (as well as our usual peppering of grime, dirty south, bmore and booty).

In many ways, our 4x4 obsession is a reaction to dubstep's flatlining rhythm (not to make sweeping generalisations or anything - tunes like Night by Benga & Coki still totally destroy the dance and there's more). But in many ways 4x4, especially niche bassline house, is the anti-dubstep. Huge banging blines that buzz and wobble like the best of em, but also no reserve on the drums, no holding back, just euphoric breakneck tempo all the way. Though their drums are more orderly in comparison, I'm hearing so much similarity between the UK post-garage b-line sound and that of euro electrohaus producers like Crookers. I want to bring these genres closer together whether they like it or not.

It's great to see that the niche sound is being embraced more and more by the London community, after a long period of snobbery towards it (sure, a 'stupid' working-class dance music from oop north, right?). But more and more dubstep heads I know are getting into tunes by T2 and Dexplicit, while DJs like Skull Juice have been playing releases by Sticky and EJ. Lets hope the trend continues. Give me huge, "dumb" bangers over ponderous meditation music ANYDAY.
