Grime temporarily banned from Rinse

Two weeks ago I wrote this review of Rinse FM for the political magazine the New Statesman, lauding the legendary pirate/internet station's energy and innovation - energy which I made pretty clear had grime at its root; as instrumental as the station has been in the growth of dubstep in the last couple of years, its relationship with grime is its greatest legacy.

Now grime as a genre has been banned. It's a temporary measure, but it's been banned. Rumours are circulating, bullshit is being talked (air to triumphalist dubstep heads who don't know), and understandably people are concerned about this being the first stage in Geeneus removing grime from Rinse for good.

"This is 100% not a move in that direction", an official spokesperson for Rinse told me.

It better not be.

*EDIT: There was some (non-live) grime on Rinse tonight on Plastician's show when I tuned in, and more pressingly a seriously hyper surprise Skepta Vs Ghetto clash on Logan's Show - listen again here: www.whatson.com/kiss. Panic over and levels raised respectively!
